These Silhouette style MTG alters are incredibally rewarding to work on. It’s loose, it’s imagiative, the colors are dramatic, and the intense contrast is striking. Trying to convey a scene with only the propoerty of shape to work with is a curious challenge as well. When I started this Mana Drain alter, I had thought to include a fair bit more detail, with some representation of magic flowing into the two hands. However, once I had the forms of the hands roughed in, I realized the color of the background already did everything I wanted, and I left it as is. This might be my favorite Magic: the Gathering Silhouette alter I’ve yet painted, and is likely also the simplest. Maybe there’s a lesson there!
