Sometimes, with commissioned Magic: the Gatehring alters, people come to me with very detailed plans. And sometimes, they give me free reign to paint ‘whatever’. In this case, I was given a list of cards to choose from, and large discretion over each scene. For this Flash alter, I was asked that some big creature be ‘flashed in’ in the art. My suggestion was Protean Hulk, but we settled on Worldspine Wurm instead. I had a lot of fun with the concept of this poor fellow reading away in his library, when suddenly, WURM!
